The Lichen Portraits is a series of graphite and ink drawings depicting crustose lichen growing on rocks and gravestones found within walking distance of my studio. I drew on small panels, easily carried to the sites where lichen was growing, and used inks made from plants growing nearby. Goldenrod flowers, pokeweed berries, acorn caps, and black walnut husks are the source of the brown, gold, pink and green pigments in these drawings.   In October 2022 The Lichen Portraits were displayed together in Unseen Biology, an invitational exhibit at Olin College.
